    CONCEPT 2018

    LOG OUT!

    LOG OUT !!

This year, in response to the high expectations of the organizer, Akari-Lisa Ishii and Motoko Ishii, Art Directors of the thematic exhibit, selected some exclusive lighting materials (ready-made or order-made light sources, luminous materials, artistic applications, control technologies and others) to demonstrate the «musts» for the targeted visitors and journalists, under the theme, “LOG OUT!”

In this official exhibit on lighting design for Maison & Objet 2018, we present a wide range of artistic expressions of light (from Japanese traditional craftsmanship to the most high-tech European products).

Our stand benefits from the cutting-edge lighting technologies of our partners offering a new proposition of lights to «log out» your spirit.

This is a sensorial voyage of lights, made of art installations for a real experience of diverse lighting expressions.

At first, visitors will discover the most recent lighting technologies such as the most advanced fixtures and high-tech control systems, to acquaint them with how much today’s lighting technologies are «log-in.» Then they will be invited into an immersive and hypnotic light-art installation where they can «log out» and relax.

So… why should we LOG OUT?

Because... being LOGGED IN has become today’s standard. Always being connected to the internet, social networks, home assistance, IoT and other online services brings uncountable benefits and convenience to our daily lives, but it is also alarming that this situation harms our mental serenity and physical relaxation.

Without ignoring the benefits, it has become the time to think of the next step: how to disconnect. Being LOGGED OUT will become a definite luxury in the coming days.

In the field of lighting design, “smart lighting,” with connected technologies and intelligent control systems, has developed considerably. Application of smart lighting Is worthwhile to facilitate our lives and save energy. Still, it is also essential to orient our luminous creations to express a more peaceful atmosphere that can help us LOG OUT.

    5 spaces for 5 experiences:

Space 1. Log in to light-tech

Lighting features are composed of light source, optic and fitting. In this open space, visitors will see the most advanced examples of each of these components. OLED, the light source for the future following LED, has made significant progress in recent years. It has become brighter, more energy efficient, and offers subtle color variations. The original OLED chandelier “Minori” hanging in the center will attract visitors’ attention from afar.

The kaleidoscopic effects of the special diffuser optics on the custom-made Sign Magic on the façade and on stand-alone objéts also catch the eyes of visitors. The latest generation of spotlights on the track can be totally remote-controlled. We will present an astonishing example that can not only change its own angle but also run on the track automatically for the first time in the history of retail lighting fixtures.

    Space 2. Light teleportation

Visitors will be absorbed in a fantastic color light tunnel which transports them to another dimension. LED color-changing techniques can completely metamorphose the space with different lighting scenarios. Here we propose a special creation inspired by color- and light-therapy methods related to recent scientific studies about circadian rhythm and their impact on mental and physical health.

It has been proven that light does more than just brighten or beautify—it also makes a great contribution to our wellbeing. The shadow play on the back wall is a perfect eye-catcher, although It has only a few simple components. The magical effect of light and shadow is emphasized by an original soundtrack.

    Space 3. Light paths

In the second part of the tunnel, an interactive light effect surprises visitors. Once they step into the space, light footprints are projected on the floor to guide them to the next space.

Light dots on the wall from one of the world’s smallest cutter spots (spotlights capable of throwing beams in sharp

geometrical forms due to their specialized optical systems) decorate the space with futuristic expressions.

    Space 4. Just log out!

In this main space, visitors can enjoy being logged out, immersed in hypnotic lighting effects representing the sunset with drops of water casting a wavy halo on the wall. Light objéts reminiscent of Zen garden stones and plants such as reeds by the water create a calm and peaceful ambiance.

It is worth noting that, although we used extremely high-tech lighting materials, we applied them in such a way as to realize a totally artistic installation, which will help visitors relax.

A leading Japanese woodcraft expert fabricated an original furniture series using hinoki (Japanese cypress), one of the noblest materials in traditional Japanese wood construction. The luminous mattress offers top comfort and dream-like conditions for relaxation.

Here we were inspired by the five fundamental elements in ancient Asian philosophy—fire, earth, metal, wood, and water—and the balance among them to achieve perfect harmony between the human body and its environment.

Here in Space 5, visitors can enjoy a partial preview of our event and view a prototype of the world’s first gold LED spotlight.

2018 Marks the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and France.

Japan’s Prime Minister and the President of France agreed to hold a festival of Japanese culture and art, “Japonismes 2018,” (https://japonismes.org/en) in France. Nearly than 70 official events introducing a wide range of Japanese culture will be held between July 2018 and February 2019.

As one of the official events and the highlight of Japonismes 2018, Japan will be adopted as the theme for the first timeon the Eiffel Tower. Motoko Ishii & Akari-Lisa Ishii (producers of the Light Trend exhibit), have designed a special lightup of the Eiffel Tower structure expressing the beauty of Japan and creating a light-art work by wrapping this Parisian landmark with images of Japan’s culture. Based on an original scenario, an original soundtrack was created for the theme of Japan, increasing the synergy between light and sound.

In homage to typical artistic expression in Japanese fine art history, gold lighting will be applied to the tower. An original LED spot realizing a perfect gold light color was specially developed for this occasion.
